How Can You Choose The Right Doctor For Your Child?

The right doctor for your child is someone who has an easy rapport with kids. There is no doubt that children can get very upset and stressed when they have to face doctor visits, but doctors like Dr. Podolskiy have the training and natural compassion to make the visit as easy as possible for your child. A doctor who will put your child at ease while answering all of your concerns and questions is the best possible doctor for your child.

How Often Should Children See The Doctor?

Infants need to see the doctor on a regular schedule, usually at 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, and 18 months. Once your child reaches their toddler years (around age 2) they should have a well-child checkup at least once a year. These yearly well child checkups should continue throughout childhood. This checkup is an important opportunity for you to discuss any issues and for the doctor to look for any emerging issues. For children with special needs or children who are ill, the visits may need to be more frequent.

What Does a Pediatric Visit Include?

The doctor will first measure your child's height and weight to determine how much they have grown. Often, the doctor will also perform brief hearing and vision tests. If your child is due for any of their vaccinations, the doctor will administer them at that time. To check the heart and lungs, the doctor will listen to the child's chest through a stethoscope. During the visit, you'll also be asked about your child's current behaviors and habits. This information can help the doctor verify your child's overall state of health. Finally, the doctor may talk with you about what to expect over the next year of your child's growth.
